Overview

MOTS-c is a 16 amino acid peptide encoded in the mitochondrial genome. In rodent and human research it acts as a signal from the mitochondria to the rest of the cell, influencing how cells use glucose and respond to exercise.

There are no canine pharmacokinetic or clinical studies yet. MOTS-c is not a first-line option. It is prescribed by exception, inside a valid VCPR, with documented owner consent and baseline bloodwork.

Mechanism of action

  1. 01Activates AMPK, a central regulator of cellular energy balance, in preclinical models.
  2. 02Influences folate cycle and purine metabolism, which shapes how cells handle energy stress.
  3. 03Expression rises with exercise in human and rodent studies.
  4. 04Studied in rodents for insulin sensitivity and age-related decline in physical capacity.

Species

Dog

Emerging. No canine pharmacokinetic or clinical data. Considered only for metabolic support cases where conventional options are not appropriate, with owner consent and baseline chemistry and fasting glucose.

Cat

Excluded. There are no feline data, and MOTS-c is not prescribed for cats on this platform.

Prescribing indications

  • MetabolicEmergingMetabolic support adjunct in dogs, prescribed by exception.
  • RecoveryEmergingExercise tolerance support under veterinary monitoring.

Dosing and administration

Starting, maintenance, and loading doses are calculated in the platform for the patient’s weight band, at the vial strength our compounding partner dispenses, and drawn to U-100 syringe units for the client’s dosing card. Any override is logged with your initials.

Screening and safety

Follow up

Baseline bloodwork, body condition score, and exercise tolerance. Measure at baseline and recheck at 4 to 6 weeks with the same measure.

The most speculative peptide we offer. No canine safety data exist. Not for pregnant or lactating animals. Use caution in diabetic patients and in animals with a prior adverse drug reaction. Cats are excluded.
